The 9th Ward Opera Company
The 9th Ward Opera Company was founded in 2012 by Dr. Kathleen Westfall. Its mission is to give local opera students the opportunity to develop their craft and gain performance experience. In 2012 the group presented an acclaimed production of the comic operas Trial by Jury and Cox and Box, and followed that success with performances in December of The Liebeslieder Project in December The group presented Pergolesi's comic masterpiece, The Perfect Wife in March, 2013. The summer production that year featured Blue Monday by George Gershwin (1922) and An Embarrassing Position by Dan Shore (2012), a comic opera based on a sketch of the same name by New Orleans author Kate Chopin.
