Out by Ten: Come Hear A Story...3 Moth StorySLAM Winners and 4 Pop/Jazz/Cabaret Musicians Mix it Up
On July 24, 2014, Out by Ten producers, Jane Ashe and Susan Seliger, present an evening of storytelling in voice and song that will transport you to the easy-going1950s and back again Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at 121 Ludlow Street, NYC.
Three great Moth StorySLAM winners will take you on a funny and inspiring journey into their personal worlds.
And the amazing pop/jazz harmonies of the vocal quartet, Quarter to Four, and the stories they sing, will move you to laugh and clap and maybe even get up and dance.
THE ARTISTS: Diana Spechler, a seven-time Moth StorySLAM winner whose stories have been featured on The Moth Radio Hour and Podcast, is the author of the novels Who by Fire and Skinny. She teaches writing for Stanford University's Online Writer's Studio and has written for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Paris Review, GQ, Glimmer Train Stories, PANK, The Southern Review, Esquire, and elsewhere. Kate Greathead is a four-time Moth Slam Champion storyteller featured on NPR's Moth Story Hour. She is a writer in NYC. She is also one of the subjects of Michael Apted's documentary films "Up Series in America, that followed the lives of fourteen British children since 1964, when they were seven years old. Jolenta Greenberg, a moth Slam winner, has also told her stories at The PIT, Union Hall, UCB, and on Kevin Alison's RISK! Podcast. She is an editor of "radio style" stories for RISK!, a graduate of the Atlantic Theater Company's conservatory program and you can hear her voice announcing funders on NY Public Radio from time to time. Quarter to Four (Q2IV) is a NYC-based vocal quartet for whom the story is the song. Fusing the styles of jazz, pop and showtunes, their influences range from Bacharach to Sondheim, Beatles to Steely Dan, Billy Joel to Elton John. Whether swaying with jazz, rocking a hard beat or teasing the pathos out of a ballad, Quarter to Four is developing a formula rarely found in the classic cabaret scene.
