Conversations with Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel featuring Paul Steiger
Southampton Arts Center presents a series of conversations moderated by Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, a writer, activist, television interviewer and producer, known for her involvement in the fields of art, design, architecture and public policy. Ms. Diamonstein-Spielvogel will be joined by luminaries in the fields of theater, publishing and architecture.
Paul E. Steiger is the executive chairman of ProPublica, a non-profit, non-partisan newsroom that produces journalism in the public interest. From 2008 through 2012, he was ProPublica's founding editor-in-chief, CEO, and president. In his current role, he remains actively involved in strategic issues, development, representing ProPublica in public venues, and consulting with management on business and editorial issues. Previously, Steiger served as the managing editor of the Wall Street Journal from 1991 to 2007. During his tenure, members of the Journal's newsroom staff were awarded 16 Pulitzer Prizes. In addition, ProPublica reporters received Pulitzer Prizes in 2010 and 2011. Steiger is a trustee of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and a member of the steering committee of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. From 1999 to 2007, he was a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board, serving as its chairman in his final year. From 2005 to 2011, he was the chairman of the Committee to Protect Journalists. He has received annual or lifetime achievement awards from universities including Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Missouri, Kansas, UCLA, and Brandeis, as well as the American Society of News Editors Leadership Award. Steiger worked for 15 years as a reporter, the Washington economics correspondent, and the business editor for the Los Angeles Times, and for 26 years as a reporter and editor for the Wall Street Journal. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale in 1964 and an honorary doctorate of laws from Columbia in 2013. Sponsored by Beach Magazine.
