Kim Prevost & Bill Solley - Astonishing Vocal/Guitar Duo!
The kind of chemistry that Prevost and Solley so effortlessly reveal . . . comes along only once in a blue moon. Think Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald in their classic Pablo encounters of the early 70s . . . with a modernist spin. - Bill Milkowski, JazzTimes Magazine
The New Orleans husband & wife team of singer Kim Prevost and guitarist Bill Solley has been racing the high road to success since winning the 1999 B.E.T. On Jazz national Jazz Discovery competition. Prevost is an inspiring vocal improvisor with a delivery both soaring and sultry, and with more than a hint of that special New Orleans flavor.
Solley's musicianship is truly amazing, as he works melody, improvisations and baseline simultaneously with virtuosity and ardor on his trademark 7-string guitar. Their repertoire spans vibrant arrangements of jazz, blues, R&B and gospel favorites, with some lively originals, as well. The results are nothing short of astonishing!
"Prevost slides effortlessly between elegant, formal jazz vocalizing and soulful R&B singing. Solley emulates a band without getting lost in the technique. . . . He mixes fleet single-note runs and quick, smart chords, all the while backing himself by thumb-popping the bass string." -Alex Rawls, reviewing Prevost and Solley's recent CD, Just in Time, for Gambit Magazine on Best of New Orleans.com.
Reviewing Prevost and Solley's first CD, I Would Give All My Love, All Music Guide's Dave Nathan said, There are, of course, other notable vocal guitar duos: Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass, Irene Kral and Laurindo Almeida, Jeri Southern and Johnny Smith. None of these, however, are as daring and outrageous as Prevost and Solley on this recording. With Prevost's perfect pitch, excellent diction, ability to scat, swoop, and bend words backed by Solley's tightly strung seven-string guitar, I Would Give All My Love is good music and a lot of fun.
Kim Prevost and Bill Solley have performed across the country and around the world, at events as far-flung and prestigious as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy and the Liurnia Jazz Festival in Croatia. They've toured from England to the Netherlands, South Africa, Turkey, Japan and Brazil, with plenty of stops in between.
Individually and together, they've performed with musical greats like Arturo Sandoval, Nicholas Payton, Bobby McFerrin, Allen Toussaint and Terri Lynn Carrington.
Audiences and reviewers alike have all proclaimed Kim Prevost and Bill Solley to be an artistically invigorating and, most important of all, downright entertaining musical duo. Don't miss their exciting visit to Jazz at Pearl's.
