MAD CITY CHICKENS, a benefit film screening for the Davis Farm to School Connection
MAD CITY CHICKENS, a documentary feature, is a film that takes a sometimes serious, sometimes whimsical look at the people who keep urban chickens in their backyards. From chicken experts and authors to a rescued landfill hen or an inexperienced family that decides to take the poultry plunge, and even a mad scientist and giant hen taking to the streets, it's a humorous and heartfelt trip through the world of backyard chickendom.
Mad City Chickens deftly weaves multiple stories and contextual issues on city chickens and their keepers in a non-linear fashion that one rarely sees in a documentary. From leading experts to urban newbies, experience the humor and heart of what's fast becoming an international backyard chicken movement.
Co-Producers and Directors Tashai Lovington and Robert Lughai, will be here from Madison, WI to join us at the Davis High School Richard Brunelle Theater for this remarkable and fun event!
This very special screening is sponsored by the Davis Food Co-op and Slow Food Yolo as a benefit for the Davis Farm to School Connection. The Davis Farm to School Connection embodies a systems approach to education by supporting programs within the Davis Joint Unified School District that connect classroom studies with hands-on experiences. These experiences include garden based learning, classroom cooking, cafeteria taste-testing, local farm visits for second graders and waste management programs such as composting and recycling. School lunch based on values that support a sustainable food system is envisioned as part of the educational culture.
