TAARKA
Taarka is a Colorado-based folk/jazz quintet, formed in 2001. Although the bassists and percussionists vary, the band's two founders, the husband/wife team Enion Pelta-Tiller (violin) and David Tiller (mandolin) are always a part of the Taarka experience. A four-piece band consisting of octave-mandolin, violin, standup bass and percussion set (imagine a trap kit, but substitute the toms, cymbals and snare for djembes, bongos, chimes and shakers), they combined Roma, Klezmer and jazz, infusing their rousing and exciting tunes with breakneck Zappa-esque breakdowns and insurmountable gusto. Regardless of your particular musical tastes, Taarka is a band that simply must be witnessed. Taarka has performed numerous shows at The High Sierra Music Festival, The Oregon Country Fair, The Fairfax World Music Festival, NW Folklife, & Bumbershoot (among others), and has shared stages with David Grisman, The Yonder Mountain String Band, The Motet, Dan Bern, and Vinyl, to name a few. Taarka shows have been named by fans as, "the most unique, moving, and intimate performances they've ever seen," as the music is shared informally, on ground level stages, offering close interaction with audiences.
