DOXACON Seattle

In the shadow of Mount Rainier, between the magnificent Cascades and the majestic Olympics, the Geek Orthodox of Seattle want you to join us for a weekend of services, presentations, and fellowship. Doxacon Seattle promises to be an amazing opportunity for learning and deepening our faith.
Hear talks about the spiritual dimensions of popular culture staples such as Star Trek, Harry Potter, Battlestar Galactica, or Firefly. Hear about the theological implications of Doctor Who, The Lord of the Rings, or Babylon 5. Participate in some rousing and edifying discussion on topics such as children's fantasy literature, gaming (tabletop and video), and the difference between Fantasy and fantasy. Won't you please come to our shindig!
Keynote Speakers Peter T. Chattaway - has been writing about film for Patheos Entertainment since 2012. As the regular film critic for BC Christian News from 1992 to the paper's closure in 2011, he won multiple awards from the Evangelical Press Association, the Canadian Church Press and the Fellowship of Christian Newspapers. He has also written about film for Christianity Today and Books & Culture since 1998. In addition to his news articles and op-ed pieces for ChristianWeek, Faith Today, The Vancouver Sun and other publications, he has contributed critical essays to the books Re-Viewing The Passion: Mel Gibson's Film and Its Critics (Palgrave Macmillan, 2004) andScandalizing Jesus?: Kazantzakis's The Last Temptation of Christ Fifty Years on (Continuum, 2005). A founding member of the Vancouver Film Critics Circle, his favorite films of all time are Lawrence of Arabia, The Purple Rose of Cairo and The Family Way. Mr. Chattaway lives in Surrey, B.C. and is a member of St John of Shanghai & St Nina of Georgia Orthodox Mission in Vancouver, B.C.
Father Tryphon - is the Abbot at All-Merciful Saviour Orthodox Christian Monastery on Vashon Island. The monastery is under the omophore of the Most Rev. Archbishop Kyrill of Western America, Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Abbot Tryphon serves as the King County police and fire chaplain for Vashon Island, and is a regular lecturer at area colleges and universities. He writes a daily blog (The Morning Offering), maintains the monastery's presence on Facebook, and records a Monday through Friday Ancient Faith Radio podcast. The monastery has its own line of fair trade, organic coffee, which you may purchase online, at the monastery, or at Doxacon Seattle! Abbot Tryphon is very interested in connecting with and inspiring our younger generations, especially Orthodox youth. The title of his address will be, "The Positive Use of the Imagination in Literature".
