Join The Huntington Ranch Garden and Stephen Lewis from Farmscape in getting your hands dirty! Learn how to craft an effective and attractive compost pile for small spaces. Participants will get hands-on experience in harvesting and gathering composting material and building a "wedding cake style" compost pile on the Huntington Ranch Garden site. Please note that this is the hands-on portion of a two part series on Compost offered by the Huntington Ranch Garden. The first portion is a classroom based tutorial on the biology of compost held on August 10th. Instructor, Stephen Lewis hails from upstate New York and holds a BFA in Poetry from Emerson College in Boston. His 8 years training and working as a chef in Los Angeles, Portland and Hawai'i turned out to be a great precursor to the art of building compost, which he does weekly with local restaurant waste and scavenged carbons. He currently works for FarmScape Gardens in L.A. and tends a 1/20th-acre urban homestead in Venice.
This workshop is only open to present and past participants of The Huntington Botanical Gardens "Train - the - Trainer".
This is a grant sponsored course intended as professional development for people actively involved in teaching gardening on a community, education, or professional level.
An email address, program title and year are required to register.
