Elvira is a Mexican citizen who has become a leader in the fight against deportations that divide families.
Elvira was deported in 2007 and separated for some time from her young son, after seeking sanctuary at the United Methodist Church in Chicago for a year.
Elvira has become an international symbol for the immigrant rights movement
The play "Elvira" tells her story and honors her.
