Archangels Don't Play Pinball - by Dario Fo
A radical comedy by Italian activist Dario Fo, "Archangels Don't Play Pinball" tells the story of Tiny, a petty criminal living on his wits who tries to go straight and struggles hysterically to work within a system of hookers, bureaucrats, and con men in the Milanese underworld. Through moments of misadventures, including a brief stay in a dog kennel because of a paper-work confusion, the play spins to a manic and unexpected finale about "the madness of man, [and] the madness of bureaucracy." Tiny's story unfolds in one of Fo's most accomplished farces and, typical of Fo, it will have you howling for more!
"Archangels Don't Play Pinball" catapulted Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo to international fame. Drawing on traditions ranging from the commedia dell'arte to puppetry, clowning, and storytelling, Fo with his wife and collaborator Franca Rame have subjected every institution, political party, power broker, corrupt organization, and controversial law to their formidable satirical powers. Over the years, they have been censored, banned, rebuked, denied visas - and played to packed houses all over the world.
