Rotture Presents: Dirty Sweet, Gringo Star and Nico Vega
Dirty Sweet Bio:
Formed in the fall of 2003, Dirty Sweet found an immediate audience of rock loving fans just months after their inception, touring as main support for Jimmy Eat World. Their reputation spread further when British magazine NME referred to the group as, the mighty Dirty Sweet, and declared the band was, getting ready to go mega with their skuzzy, ass-shaking rawk n roll. Winning the award for best new rock and roll band at the 2005 San Diego Music Award, as well as their tireless performances to packed houses - including a month of sold out shows at Hollywoods legendary Viper Room in the fall of 2006 - further encouraged the group to begin recording their debut, Of Monarchs and Beggars.
Part of the bands initial success was due to the musical pedigree of its members. Rhythm guitarist Mark Murino and drummer Chris Mendez-Vanacore had played together in a string of groups, including the indie rock band Jejune. Bassist Shaun Cornell anchored the rhythm section for the popular roots-rock band Convoy (whose remaining members would later form Louis XIV). Lead guitarist Nathan Beale joined Dirty Sweet after leaving the Detroit based Moods forModerns and moving to California. In lead singer Ryan Koontz the group found a completely untapped resource. Possessing both a unique vocal style and natural stage presence, he was the obvious choice as the groups frontman.
