Cooks & Books with William Grimes at The Ruins
On October 26th, we welcome William Grimes, the author of 'Appetite City: A Culinary History of New York', to our Cooks & Books Series. In his new book, the former New York Times restaurant critic takes us on a grand tour of the history of New York restaurants. From the days of sidewalk oyster bars and turtle soup, through the creation of Little Italy and Chinatown, and the birth of Times Square--it is a unique and delicious historical journey. The over-the-top rococo private club The Ruins will be the setting for our dinner, with an inspiring menu created from some of New York's great iconographic restaurants: Delmonico's, Lindy's, The Waldorf Astoria, the Plaza, Windows on the World. And we'll start the evening off with some classic cocktails, too (Grimes is the author of 'Straight Up or On the Rocks: The Story of the American Cocktail'.) Put on some heels and lipstick, perhaps a tophat(!) and join us for an evening to remember. $155 for all cocktails, wines, courses, and a signed copy of 'Appetite City'; sales tax and 18% gratuity bring the total price to $200 per person. Seating is at 6pm, and reservations are required. ------------------ For more information about the event, please call 206.632.2419
