The 5th and a Half Annual Cafe con Comedy
A production of Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents, The 5th and a Half Annual Cafe con Comedy is a bi-annual night of diverse stand up comedy at the Dolores Park Cafe in San Francisco's Mission District. Tonight's line-up features a half a dozen comics: Iranian American, African American, Jewish, Caucasian American, lesbian, gay, straight...
Comedians' Bios: ALI MAFI is a gay Muslim comic who was born in Iran and raised in Novato. At 23, he is part of a new generation of San Francisco comedians. He has been chronicled on CNN for his work with the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, has been touring nationally opening for Aisha Tyler, and has opened for Mo'Nique and Marga Gomez.
YAYNE ABEBA is a native San Franciscan of Ethiopian descent. She began studying acting at the Jean Shelton Actor's Lab in 1995 and was bitten by the comedy bug four years later at The Luggage Store. Realizing there was no cure, she accepted her fate and has since been touted as one of SF's up and coming comedians. She won The 2002 Russian River Comedy Competition and competed in several SF Comedy Competitions as well as the Seattle Comedy Competition.
HOWARD STONE is a comic, actor, writer, and cartoonist. His unconventional style is both laid back and manic. Being a father, he spouts alternative family values with edge and irony and proudly extols the importance of ether as a viable tool for childrearing then launches effortlessly into tirades about pop culture, his Jewish roots, sobriety, coping with mental illnesses, commercialism, and all the other absurdities of life. He's the host of his own uniquely twisted talk show, now in it's 7th, year aptly called "The Howard Stone Show with the Danny Dechi Orchestra." He is also the co-creator of The Jesus Roast.
RONN VIGH brings his unique brand of comedy to clubs, colleges, and airport lavatories all over the world. His brash attitude and acerbic wit have earned him a comparison to a young Joan Rivers by SF Weekly if she were male, gay, and didn't shoot Botox by the pound. He co-produces Harvey's Funny Tuesday's weekly comedy show in the Castro. His one-man show "98 Pounds of Fury" enjoyed a successful run; he appeared in the Off-Broadway hit "10 Naked Men;" and recently hosted coverage for the Pride Parade and a weekly current events show on VidSF.com. His biggest accomplishment to date: working as a flight attendant and never smothering any of his passengers with a pillow.
ANDREA MICHAELS is a storyteller returning to the stage after a 15-year gap. A total word-freak, Andrea names companies and products for a living, constructs crosswords for the NY Times, and plays Scrabble semi-professionally. She was a chaperone on the All New Dating Game in the late 80s. The highlight of her life (until tonight) was winning a motorhome on "The Wheel of Fortune."
LISA GEDULDIG is a local stand up comic and comedy event producer. She is the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of annual comedy shows including: Kung Pao Kosher Comedy; Funny Girlz; The George Bush Going Away Party; The Color of Funny; Comedy Returns to El Rio; and Charo. www.koshercomedy.com
