Evening of Blues featuring Scott Barretta & Bill "Howl-n-madd" Perry
The Newcomers Club of Oxford and the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council Present an Evening of Blues featuring a talk by writer, Scott Barretta, followed by a live concert by Bill "Howl-n-Madd" Perry.
Scott Barretta, host of the Highway 61 radio show for Mississippi Public Broadcasting, is head writer and researcher (with Jim O'Neal) for the Mississippi Blues Trail, widely published music journalist and former editor of Living Blues magazine.
Bill Howl-N-Madd Perry's music keeps blues lovers on the dance floor. Perry began his career in Chicago. In his early career he wrote for musicians such as Lil Johnny Taylor, Ted Taylor, and Cash McCall. He worked for Phil Chess as a studio musician and for Stan Lewis, where he wrote for Jewel Paula Records. He has toured throughout the U.S and also spent a year touring in Indonesia.
Bill is a legendary Blues Musicians who is noted on three of the Historical Mississippi Blues Trail Markers. One is located in front of Po Monkey's Juke Joint in Merigold, MS; another is located on the square in Oxford, Mississippi and one is located in front of the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
