Michael Moores much criticized and much celebrated film Sicko demonstrated that key members of Congress were given significant donations from the pharmaceuticals and insurance industries for their election campaigns and an examination of the current state of things makes clear that key figures of the now Democratic Congress have been given significant contributions from the same corporations. Democratic Senator Max Baucus from Colorado, a state with under 1 million citizens, has received $3 million dollars from the corporate health industry. As Chair of the Senate Finance Committee he has summarily ruled the Single Payer Health Plan off the table. President Obama was quick to stuff corporate bank coffers with untold billions so that bank executives could continue to receive million dollar paydays with public tax payer money. Two years running in the chill of the depression, insurance companies raised individual insurance fees 15% in 2008 and now 20% in 2009. They are corporate businesses determined first and foremost to maximize their profits, not maximizing health care for Americans. That they claim is the American tradition. All members of Congress have gifted themselves with free medical care. Listen carefully and play close attention to how well we are being served by our elected officials.
