Alejandro serves as a consultant, trainer, mediator, facilitator and public speaker specializing in conflict resolution and mediation, cultural diversity, and team building. As a dynamic speaker, in both English and Spanish, he is routinely invited to speak at schools and universities, community meetings and public forums. Alejandro implements a unique way of engaging participants in a fun and focused way and reaches all age groups with the message of prevention by stressing the importance of respect despite differences based on colors, territory or neighborhoods. He has worked with over 100 organizations including educational institutions, foundations, law enforcement and government agencies, and community-based and faith-based organizations. His approach is based on the belief that communities connect and flourish through interpersonal communication, cultural understanding and community involvement. Alejandro is passionate about helping people resolve their conflicts and teaching others to do so.
Alejandro began his work in violence prevention in 1992 after connecting with Barrios Unidos, a nationally recognized gang prevention agency. Since then, he has worked as a consultant, direct service provider, development coordinator and programs director in the field of gang prevention. In 1997 he helped coordinate a statewide effort that successfully created legislation for increased funding for prevention efforts. He later managed a gang tattoo removal program, co-founded KLEAR (Kids Learning Empathy And Respect, an alternative suspension project) and organized two peace summits and several mediations between rival Latino gangs.
Alejandro recently left The Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center after 9 years of managing the Violence Prevention and Strengthening Neighborhoods Program where he oversaw efforts designed to end violence and build community by facilitating partnerships between Pacific Islanders, Latinos, faith-based groups, law enforcement, and city officials. Currently, Alejandro is the Community School Director for Belle Haven Community School in Menlo Park, CA.
