CD Forum presents COCo Dance Theatre: Ruptured Calypso
***Tickets still available at the door!*** Rigidigidim De Bamba De: Ruptured Calypso is Cynthia Oliver's evening-length dance theatre project on calypso dancing. Rigidigidim is an experiment in disjuncture, in the sonic and visual landscapes of Caribbean realities and mythology. In Oliver's signature repeating, overlapping, non-linear style, Rigidigidim forces performers from the Caribbean diaspora to navigate their multiple national and regional identity through their voices, stories, and vibrant bodies.
A Bronx-born, Virgin Island-reared performer, Cynthia Oliver incorporates the textures of Caribbean performance with African and American aesthetic sensibilities. She has danced with Theatre Dance Inc. and the Caribbean Dance Company of St. Croix. In addition to Oliver's performance work, she holds a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from New York University. She has taught at New York University's Department of Drama, Tisch School of the Arts, Hunter College, Manhattanville College at Purchase, The Newcomb Summer Dance Intensive at Tulane University and Florida State University. CD Forum Session! A post performance Q & A free to ticket holders February 19th & 20th.
