Hollywood enjoyed a highly successful year in 2012 both commercially (undeniably) and critically (arguably). Studios and independents grossed nearly $11 billionbut what changed in just one year?
Well-loved veteran blogger Anne Thompson chronicled the yearfrom Sundance fire-sales to Academy Award showdownin her book, The $11 Billion Year. At this talk and book signing in Seattle, she'll encourage the audience to drink and consider the madness of movie-making, in an unbridled, open forum conversation with Warren Etheredge.
ABOUT ANNE THOMPSON Born and raised in New York, Anne Thompson has been a contributor to the New York Times, Washington Post, The Observer, and Wired. She has served as film columnist at Variety, and deputy editor of Variety.com, where her daily blog, Thompson on Hollywood, launched in March 2007. Anne was the Deputy Film Editor at The Hollywood Reporter, the West Coast Editor of Premiere, a Senior Writer at Entertainment Weekly, and West Coast Editor for Film Comment. She wrote the film industry column "Risky Business" for L.A. Weekly and the Los Angeles Times syndicate. A graduate of the Department of Cinema Studies at New York University, she has taught film criticism at USC and hosts the fall semester of "Sneak Previews" for UCLA Extension.
ABOUT WARREN ETHEREDGE Warren Etheredge has conducted over 2,500 interviews. He hosts The High Bar, his Emmy-nominated television series devoted to "raising the bar," and the fourth season of Reel NW on KCTS. He is the founder of The Warren Report (www.thewarrenreport.com) and one of the founding faculty of TheFilmSchool and The Red Badge Project. He is a published author, staged playwright, successful producer, veteran festival curator and much sought-after public speaker.
