Seattle Novyi Theatre presents The Seagull by Anton Chekhov
Seattle Novyi Theatre
"Simpler Higher Lighter Merrier"
WHAT: Seattle Novyi Theatre is the child of a thirteen week workshop with Honored Artist of Russia Leonid Anisimov. He is the artistic director of the Tokyo Novyi Theatre in Japan, and the former artistic director of the Chamber Drama Theatre of Vladivostok in Russia. Mr. Anisimov's work is based on the techniques employed by K. Stanislavski during his last years at the Moscow Art Theatre in the 1930's. Our goal is to explore theatre using the Stanislavski System, and bring communication, inner life and re-living to the stage. We invite you to join us on what will be a year long journey striving toward this goal. On June 3, 2006, we began this journey with a performance of Uncle Vanya. From that point forward we will offer weekly performances of either Uncle Vanya or The Seagull for the next twelve months in this intimate, twenty-seat venue located on the northern shores of Lake Washington. In addition to our commitment to provide repertory theatre in Seattle, another unique aspect of our group is its international composition. Our members include theatre artists who now make their home in Seattle but originally come from the countries of Canada, Cuba, England and Japan.
