I Just Wanted Candy: Confessions of a Fat Kid!
"Jason Schommer is someone who will make you laugh and make you hungry for more." - Louie Anderson, Emmy Award winning comedian.
In this entirely brand new show, Jason hilariously performs, for the very first time, a collection of true stories from his life ranging from a few family vacations gone terribly wrong, awkward school memories, adventures on land and sea, a lifelong obsession with a pop star, surviving the grief of losing one's parents, and the hard earned triumph of the underdog. Hilarious, strange, witty, brave, surprising, and sometimes heartbreakingly sad these stories from Jason's life illustrate our common struggles, unique bonds, and uncovers our connection to one another in unexpected waysbut yet still offers quite a few "Thank God it was him and not me!" moments. "I Just Wanted Candy: Confessions of a Fat Kid" ultimately celebrates life and all the twists and turns, ups and downs, and unexpected detours that spring up along the way from the cradle to the grave.
Jason Schommer, recently named "What's Hot For 2013" by Campus Activities Magazine, is a standup comedian who has spent the past two years as the opening act for Louie Anderson in Las Vegas. Louie Anderson says "Jason is funny, clever, smart, and on his way to the big time!". Laugh-until-you-cry stories combine with playful one liners covering a wide array of topics ranging from the daily struggles of life to his loveable, yet kooky, Minnesotan family. Jason's unique comedy style ranges from observational humor based on his life, the world around us, and hilarious commentary of pop culture recounting hysterical true encounters with celebrities such as Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, and Dolly Parton. Kathy Griffin even gave Jason a shout out during her show! Jason began his adventures in standup comedy while working for The Rosie O'Donnell Show in NYC. Since then, Jason has quickly become an audience favorite at shows all over with rave reviews and a rapidly growing fan base. Jason is consistently winning over crowds whether he's performing in an intimate theatre for a 100 audience members or for a crowd of 3,000 at a casino. For years Jason was a member of the Little Falls community theatre troupe The Hole In The Day Players and acted in such productions as "Peter Pan", "Annie", "Godspell" and "Greater Tuna" to name a few. He has also directed such hit productions as "Grease!", "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Disney's Beauty and the Beast", "Footloose", "Evita" and "Steel Magnolias" and "Romeo & Juliet" among many others.
