homeLA:studio // The Brewery
Michelle Jane Lee, visual artist and host of the homeLA:studio series at The Brewery Artist Complex, will open her home studio for three Sundays in August to small groups of guests. This fifth installment of the homeLA performance project offers an intimate look at experimental dance in an artist loft at a site which was the Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery until 1982. Over the course of a three-month rehearsal process, artists Ariana Daub, Scott McCabe, Carmela Hermann, Ally Voye, Filipa Valente, Terrence Luke John, and Eugene Ahn respond to the particular architecture and ethos of Michelle's home as they embed new energy into the space culminating in a one-of-a-kind group performance.
homeLA advocates for experimental dance making and body-based art within the context of home. The project provides a platform for independent dance makers to develop new works in conversation with homeowners, co-artists, and diverse audiences in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Combining site-sensitive dance with salon-style performance, homeLA seeks to contribute to a dialogue about performance, domestic space, and Los Angeles' unique landscape. www.homelahello.com
