Bios:
New York-based performers Richard Harrington and Chris Kauffman met in 1997 and began to craft the unusual blend of comedy, absurdity, tragedy, geography and accordion music that eventually became the two-man team of Belgian cabaret singer Gustave and his associate Nhar. Harrington & Kauffman debuted their first Gustave and Nhar show, Motel California, in 1999, and followed it up with Nharcolepsy in 2002. And since 2009, they've been working on their latest show, Cabaret Terrarium. Each of these shows toured for several years around North America and the world.
Richard Harrington (Gustave) has acted in many independent plays and films in New York and San Francisco. He wrote and directed the short film The Babies and co-wrote and co-directed the short film Waiting for Yanni. He has also toured his one-man show, Saving the Desert Tortoise, to fringe festivals in the Canadian prairie and performed it in New York at HERE Arts Center. In the past few years he has worked as a writer and performer in various productions at the Brick Theater in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. His most recent role there was Granduncle in The Granduncle Quadrilogy: Tales From the Land of Ice. He studied acting at the École Philippe Gaulier in London and Paris, with the San Francisco Mime Troupe, with the Saratoga International Theater Institute, and at Williams College. He is also a graphic designer and computer programmer.
Chris Kauffman (Nhar) has performed at Bleecker Street Theatre, the Alliance Francaise, HERE, PS122, NADA. He has performed regionally at Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell, MA; Perseverance Theatre in Juneau, AK; W.H.A.T in Wellfleet, national tour of The Miser. Performed with dance company dona orphéline in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Montreal. '04-present: teacher and director at Gettysburg College. '06-present: Co-Director of the Greylock Theatre Project at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Studied with Philippe Gaulier, David Shiner; M.F.A. Brandeis.
Patricia Buckley (director). Besides Harrington and Kauffman's Motel California and Nharcolepsy, Ms. Buckley has directed for the Actors Shakespeare Company, Dixon Place, The Franklin Stage Company with various projects that have toured the Canadian Fringe, Piccolo Spoleto and Aspen Comedy Festivals. Ms. Buckley is a founding member of the three-woman physical comedy troupe Gams On The Lam, who performed their slapstick exploits in the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe. She was a collaborating performer and writer with acclaimed Minneapolis Theatre Company, Theatre de la Jeune Lune. New York performing credits include New York Theatre Workshop, Westbeth, Potomac Theatre Company and Primary Stages. Film and TV credits include Law & Order, Death of a President and Kabluey. Regional theater credits include Portland Center Stage, Portland Stage Company, Walnut Street Theatre, Coconut Grove Playhouse, Cleveland Playhouse and The Berkshire Theatre Festival. Ms.Buckley is the writer and performer of Evolution, a solo show.
Kristi McKay (set designer) is a native central New Yorker with a rich and varied background in theater arts. She was the original resident costume designer for the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn, NY, designing over 30 productions. In 1989 she moved to Syracuse and began a career in the Le Moyne College Theater Department. There she has served as costume designer, graphics designer, production manager, event planner and is currently the Manager of the W. Carroll Coyne Center for the Performing Arts. Kristi has also served as Executive Producer for Contemporary Theater of Syracuse, and toured internationally as the production stage manager for Gams on the Lam. Other production management credits include: Syracuse Irish Festival, Empire State Brewing and Music Festival, the Syracuse Blues Festival, and most notably, the City of Syracuse Sesquicentennial Celebration. Kristi serves as a judge for the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMY's), and since 2004 has been a member of the board of directors for The Redhouse Arts Center.
