PRESS FOR CHRIS JONES:
"Everyone steals from Robert Johnson even if they don't know it. He pioneered what would later become rock and roll," commented Chris Jones when asked about the basis of his interest in playing guitar. "If I hadn't met Gary Meziere I wouldn't know Robert Johnson and if I hadn't met David Ballantyne I wouldn't know Iggy and The Stooges."
The diverse inspiration that Chris derives from his nights playing at various open jam sessions throughout Salem and surrounding area sum up his philosophy and technical enthusiasm.
"I've become a huge fan of clean pure tone. It takes a lot of courage to show up with a Stratocaster or telecaster and a clean channel low-voltage amp and keep up your guitar wielding chops with the area's most experienced players. I have also been exploring the different ways to change techniques during a song such as rolling down a tone knob while engaging a different pickup combination on the guitar to take a lead solo. I also experiment splicing song sections between strumming and actively finger picking. Talking shop about handmade guitar pedals and tone variations gets me to really think about what I want in my sound."
"Now after four years of experience absorbing The Clash, John Snowfield's Uber Jam, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and piles more records you can listen live to Chris's current state of mind." Doug Hoffman Salem Weekly
PRESS FOR GIANT BUG VILLAGE:
"As someone who has to be routinely reminded to tie his shoes, it's always impressive to meet a person blessed with a spot-on elephant's memory. Stan McMahon, despite 50 plus years and 50,000 plus beers under his belt, is still sharp as a tack when it comes to rock. Rightfully earning his self styled reputation as "'he Human Jukebox,' the man's mental songbook is heavy with Beatles, Byrds and Big Star. Though he's mainly garnered attention with his Guided by Voices cover band, Giant Bug Village, the Stan McMahon Band serves up equally tasty slabs of power-pop goodness." - Josh Blanchard, Portland Mercury
