NIGHTMARE by Dia Dear June 20 & 21 @ CounterPULSE 80 Turk
I'M INTERESTED IN CONSTRUCTING A FANTASY WORLD.
I'M GOING TO TEMPORARILY CALL NIGHTMARE.
In 2011 I began performing. I just did what 'felt' right and did it a lot. I made well over a hundred (hundreds?) of unique performances in that year. Get on stage at (most likely) The Stud for Something or on the floor at Aunt Charlie's for High Fantasy and live for a few minutes. The essence of each performance was the same: manipulating an inherent ability to fascinate (to be alluring and transfixing) in order to share evocative emotion (eliciting an emotional response).
I got burnt out from performing in this way. Kind of by necessity, I became very interested in expressing the essence of the content of my performance through non-performative means.
Last year, I began drawing and writing. Drawing turned into painting and writing into animation. Paintings and animation turned into an environment. The environment is NIGHTMARE.
