The Smoking Diary
If you think smoking is your last vice...

THE SMOKING DIARY

by Loretta Dillon

Directed by Jean Dobie Giebel

Starring Katherine Alt Keener

THE SMOKING DIARY chronicles the adventures of Renee, a forty-something, single mom from Cleveland who is exploring the online dating jungle with disastrous but comical results. When she meets a man living in New York City who she thinks is an ideal match, she's determined to impress him, even to the extent of quitting a lifelong smoking habit. But quitting smoking proves to be only the first of many challenges Renee faces in her journey toward love, forgiveness, and self-awareness.

In 2002 playwright Loretta Dillon created a blog that focused on relationships, recovery and true crime stories, specifically spousal murder. Excerpts of her blog were published as a book in 2005 that was honored as a finalist for a non-fiction Blooker award. Ever the perennial diarist, Dillon kept a running log of her experiences in dating and with quitting smoking that resulted in THE SMOKING DIARY. For her blog on background, out takes and more information, see www.thesmokingdiary.com.

THE SMOKING DIARY features actress Katherine Alt Keener who is currently playing the title role of Jacqueline Turner, Esq., in the new web series from Great Resolve Media, Jacqueline Turner Representing More on-camera work includes indie films: A Hope for Mr. Hawley, Conservation, Lying Like Lions, and the title role in Mother. Shes appeared in television on Law & Order, Saturday Night Live,
and One Life to Live. THE SMOKING DIARY is directed by Fat Melon Productions Artistic Director Jean Dobie Giebel, who is currently chairwoman of the Department of Drama and Dance at Hofstra University.

THE SMOKING DIARY is the inaugural production of Fat Melon Productions.  Works developed by the company present
contemporary social or cultural themes in a context which is both entertaining and enlightening. Fat Melon Productions is the producing arm of Fat Melon.org, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support artists who are transitioning to a new phase in their artistic development, be they emerging artists at the genesis of their professional career, or established artists moving to a new medium or a new phase of their artistic life.  Artists in the performing and visual arts can find support through Fat Melon via a mentoring network and internship database, workshops, and developmental events.  The goal of the organization is to maintain a group of producing professionals dedicated to the realization of the work engendered through mentoring and the desire to foster new work.
