FACE ADDICT - A Film by Edo Bertoglio
Returning to the era which birthed his film Downtown 81, Edo Bertoglio re-visits the no wave / new wave / drugs / poets / artists / fashion & freak generation of the 70s & 80s Downtown scene of New York, this time with the documentary format.
Face Addict is Edo's approach of piecing together the story that continued beyond his departure from New York with an inquisitive want to better understand the forgotten downtown scene from his wiser, more sober perspective, a story which each holds a piece of, and shares. Weaving interviews and footage of Downtown legends Jean-Michel Basquiat, Glenn O'Brien, Deborah Harry, John Lurie, James Nares, Maripol and many others, Bertoglio (whose portrait photographs helped capture and define that scene), accompanied by his friend Walter Steding (Andy Warhol's ex-assistant, avant-garde painter and musician), walks us though his own memories of the past, and their ripple effects into the present lives of these New York artists.
Here is a glimpse into a time when life was art, and art was going to a party.
