Her Wild Oat
A rollicking comedy-drama of a waitress who hitches her lunch-wagon to a star and takes a wild ride into society, starring the charming, vivacious and talented Colleen Moore. With savings from the operation of a lunch wagon, Mary Brown (Colleen Moore) attempts to enter an exclusive summer resort society. Snubbed by the other guests, she disguises herself (on the suggestion of a story-hungry young reporter) as the Duchesse de Granville, staying at an elegant hotel, and accepting expensive gifts from traveling salesmen. The arrival of Philip Latour (Lary Kent), the son of the Duke of Granville (Charles Giblyn), just complicates the situation, especially when sparks begin to fly between Philip and Mary. Along with Louise Brooks, Clara Bow and Connie Talmadge, Colleen Moore was a leading light of a new group of exciting female movie stars in the 1920s. They embodied the energy and exuberance of the jazz age, as well as the rapidly changing roles of women. Moore was the quintessential flapper. Her effervescent and playful persona made Moore one of the most popular stars of that decade of prosperity and transformation. The restoration of Her Wild Oat allows 21st century audiences to rediscover the wit and charm of this amazing movie star. Ben Model is one of the USA's leading silent film accompanists, and has been playing piano and organ for silents at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for the past 27 years and the CAC for over 6 years.
