Dream Weavers of the Pomo and Miwok
This presentation by Ben Benson will examine the rich heritage of basketry arts of the North Bay tribal cultures. California Native American basketry designs and techniques represent an integrated environmental philosophy and complex spirituality. The presentation will also emphasize the special relationship that traditional Native American women have with plant communities. Participants will enjoy hands-on examples of beautiful baskets. Ben is an anthropologist, museum director, and published author in Native American Art. His monograph "From Straw Into Gold" documents the basketry traditions of 26 tribes of the American West.
