Changing MindSets Through Applied Improvisation
A mindset is a way of thinking and believing that determines the way we interpret experiences. A "fixed" mindset - the belief that we are either smart or we are not smart, we are winners or losers, creative or not creative and whatever we have been is what we will continue to be - is a concept many people still buy into despite an exciting body of research showing that it is just not the case. Intelligence, creativity and interpersonal skills are dynamic and develop through direct experience. Studies show that a "growth" mindset is instrumental in helping students improve their academic achievement and promotes professional and personal development in adults. Applied Improvisation is an ideal method for looking at the concept of mindset and engaging in creative experiences that can change it. In this workshop we will use improvisation to:
Examine the dimensions of a growth mindset;
Explore the research showing the benefits of focusing on a shift in mindset to promote positive change;
Discuss applications of these techniques in academic, clinical and training situations;
Facilitator: Jude Treder-Wolff, LCSW, RMT, CGP is a consultant/trainer and writer/performer, with 25 years experience utilizing cutting edge, evidence-based creative methods to help individuals and groups engage with and develop their creative capacities to make positive change in their lives.
