ABOUT THE ARTISTS: PANDIT JASRAJ: Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj is one of India's premier classical vocalists and the foremost exponent of Mewati Gharana. He is blessed with a rich, soulful and sonorous voice which traverses effortlessly over all three and a half octaves.
The highlight of Pandit Jasraj's vocalizing is his perfect diction, clarity in sur and extreme tunefulness. Pandit Jasraj's greatest contribution to Indian music is his conception of an unique and novel jugalbandhi based on the ancient system of moorchanas, between a male and a female vocalist, each singing in their respective scales and different ragas at the same time.
He is the recipient of several honors and awards. These include Padma Vibhushan, Surer Guru, Sangeet Martand, Sangeet Kala Ratna, Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar, and Dinanath Mangeshkar Award.
L SUBRAMANIAM: Padma Bhushan Dr Lakshminarayana Subramaniam is an acclaimed Indian violinist, composer and conductor, trained in the classical Carnatic music tradition and Western classical music, and renowned for his virtuoso playing techniques and compositions in orchestral fusion.
Dr L Subramaniam, India's violin icon, "The Paganini of Indian Classical music", "the God of Indian Violin" is the serenity of an Indian musician combined with the magnetism of a western star.
Constantly propelled from Los Angeles to Paris, Singapore to Sydney, he has conquered every audience with the elegance and virtuosity of his style. Perhaps no other musician in the world can boast of such diverse repertoire and collaborations, or even such powerful techniques. He is a force that is strongly Indian, but universal in nature and approach.
