The Grateful Dead - Rare Performances
A one-night-only big screen celebration of the greatest live band of all time in a brand new program from the Shelley Archives!
Guest Speaker: Bill Shelley Members $10 / Public $15 Includes reception at 9:15pm
grateful dead 2Of all the legendary bands to emerge from the rich musical universe of 1960s San Francisco, few have had the lasting impact of The Grateful Dead. From the Fillmore West auditorium to Woodstock and on to countless stages throughout the world, The Grateful Dead became the greatest live band of all time.
Although they recorded many classic albums, it was their famed one-of-a-kind concerts that cemented The Dead's special bond with their fans. Each performance featured unique, long spacey jams of songs like "Dark Star," and their many other classic hits. They wrote most of their hit songs, but in concerts they also played cover songs that they made their own.
This amazing evening will showcase three of the band's great keyboard players: Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Keith Godchaux and Brent Mydland (who sadly all died tragically before their time), as well as the famed talents of Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart (from Baldwin, NY), Bill Kreutzmann, Tom Constanten, Donna Jean Godchaux, and their lyricist Robert Hunter.
This one-night-only tribute will feature stunning rare performances from television, promotional films, rehearsal footage, interviews, and concerts made all around the world. Some of the featured songs of this spectacular night will be "Casey Jones," "Playin' in the Band," "Morning Dew," and "Wharf Rat."
No Dead Head will want to miss this unforgettable evening!
