For Colored Girls Benefit Performance & Reception
Mahogany Ensemble Theatre (MET) in association with Project 1 Voice presents a benefit staged performance of the Award-Winning play, 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf' by Ntozake Shange. The performance will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at 7:30 PM--pre-show reception starts at 6:30 PM at the East Bank Theatre-Bossier City, LA.
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the stage debut of this Tony and Obie Award-winning play. 'For Colored Girls', a passionately-feminist spellbinding choreopoem, is a fluid collection of vivid prose and free verse narratives about and performed by black women. Through dance, music, and poetry, the women are united in sorrow, spirit, pride, and soul, while celebrating their beauty, their friendships, their scars, their successes, and their connection to something larger and divine. 'For Colored Girls' evokes feelings that continue to excite, inspire and transform audiences around the world, four decades after becoming a Broadway sensation.
Director Angelique Feaster Evans along with METs state/regional award-winning cast of 'For Colored Girls' will perform in this 4th Annual Juneteenth Fundraiser. Mahogany Ensemble Theatre is one of over thirty African American theatre companies and diverse institutions, across the nation and abroad, presenting simultaneous staged readings or performances of the same play on the same day!
Tickets: $20.00 in advance/$25.00 at the door (includes pre-show reception & performance)
All proceeds from this performance will benefit the programming initiatives of Mahogany Ensemble Theatre.
