ASCE Seattle Section Ports and Harbors Committee Monthly Dinner
Speaker: Evan Sheesley, P.E., ASCE Seattle Sustainability Committee Chair, Senior Engineer, BergerABAM, Federal Way, WA

Evan was one of the first individuals credentialed as an Envision Sustainability Professional and trained third party Verifier by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. He is a senior engineer and head of the sustainability committee at BergerABAM. His work experience includes civil and structural design of waterfront, industrial, military, and institutional facilities. After moving to Seattle in 2007, his passion for sustainable engineering lead him in 2012 to cofound the ASCE Seattle Sustainability Committee, whose mission is to bring the Seattle civil engineering community together to discuss local sustainability issues through professional development and outreach activities. Outside of work and volunteering, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, playing music, hiking, and cooking.

Topic: Finally! Sustainability Guidelines for Civil Infrastructure - An Introduction to Envision with Port Project Examples

Envision is a rating system for infrastructure projects developed under a strategic collaboration between the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and the ISI, a nonprofit organization founded by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Public Works Association, and the American Council of Engineering Companies. Envision offers a way to assess the sustainability of an infrastructure project by emphasizing its overall contribution to a community through stakeholder engagement, cultural awareness, business sustainability, and environmental stewardship. This exciting development gives civil engineers, planners, and policy makers a common platform to discuss the sustainability of infrastructure that has, until now, been sporadic at best.

The ports of Everett, WA and Long Beach, CA have each spearhead studies on the applicability of Envision. Information from these studies will be used to give an introduction to what Envision is and how it applies to port infrastructure projects.
