Khambatta Dance
Conduit Dance Guest Artist Series hosts the Seattle-based Khambatta Dance Company for a one night performance
Saturday, May 31 at 8:00 pm.
Khambatta Dance Company premieres, Vice and Virtue, which twists moral and ethical themes into a hypnotic human tale. Dancers strut and slither around a shiny apple suggestive of covert envy, desire and compassion, emanating a thicket of impulsiveness and creating a deep undertow of emotional push and pull. Vice and Virtue pushes the sexy, seething gruffness of the previous piece in the series Truth and Betrayal, (City Arts 9/2013) to an edgy conclusion that includes live accompaniment with original compositions by Julia Kent (Rasputina, Anthony and the Johnsons).
Two additional works will be presented on that evening: Interview with the American Dream (2009), which was inspired by the anonymous telephone interview recordings that occurred throughout the U.S during the height of the Great Recession., ; and Love Story (2008), a piece that uses video interviews about love with members of the community. Interviews with Donald Byrd (Spectrum Dance), Tonya Lockyer (Velocity Dance Center) and others are inclued as a prologue to a meditation on the subject. www.KhambattaDance.org.
Vice and Virtue, and its Pacific Northwest tour, received major support by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.
Khambatta Dance will also teach a workshop at Conduit on May 31, 11:30-1:30 pm - Fit to Fly: The Technique of Fitting. Cost $15 or $27 for both workshop at performance. Register for the workshop only here: http://conduit.ecrater.com/p/19968273/fit-to-fly-the-technique-of-fitting OR Purchase a Performance+Workshop ticket above for $27 (a savings of $12)
