Friday evening kicks it off at the historic Inn at Harbour Village. Wine at a no-host bar with complimentary cheese and fruit buffet start the social half-hour. The music is Jazz hot and fun.
The Augustana Jazz Quartet from Portland, Oregon, is comprised of four of the Northwest's best jazz musicians, and their superb musical talents will get Water Music Festival's 30th anniversary weekend off to a rousing start, with favorite jazz vocal and instrumental classics! The Augustana ensemble is definitely one of Water Music's "Pearls from Our Past"!
Marilyn Keller brings a special magic to the stage with her charming presence and flawless vocal stylings. Her diverse musical roots include dixieland, ragtime, gospel, soul and traditional jazz styles. Veteran drummer Ron Steen is one of the Northwest's top rhythm keepers and leader of the Portland jazz scene. He has performed with a host of jazz artists such as Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, and Dexter Gordon. Kevin Deitz is an active jazz and classical bassist, composer/arranger, and educator. He has performed with symphonies and choirs all over the northwest. As a cellist, Kevin has performed with Mose Allison, Dave Brubeck and Mason Williams, to name a few. Pianist George Mitchell has been on call for more than 30 years as first-call pianist for Diana Ross. He has toured every year since 1981 as part of the rhythm section and continues to perform worldwide. He exudes a relaxed, quiet competence that makes listeners understand why singers such as Diana Ross have such confidence in him.
