The 48 Hour Film Project is the wild, sleepless weekend of filmmaking, where filmmaking teams must make a movie -- write, shoot, edit and score original music --from scratch-all in 48 hours.
See the results of their wild weekend of filmmaking at the Charles Theatre!
This year, 52 teams of local filmmakers hit the streets of Charm City in their race against the clock. The biggest in Baltimore to date!
On Friday June 12, the teams draw from a hat to determine the genre of their film - will it be sci fi? comedy? horror? spy? Who knows! Teams also receive a character, prop, and line of dialogue to include in their movie.
By Sunday, June 14, their films will be complete. A mere forty-eight hours later, exhausted filmmakers will race to make the drop-off deadline!
Each film must be less than 7 minutes, and team members must all be volunteers.
The 48 Hour Film Project's mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. Through its festival/competition, the Project encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers, emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on "doing" instead of "talking."
