Event
Burma VJ
In 2007, when 100,000 Burmese people took to the streets to protest their repressive regime, foreign news crews were banned and the Internet was shut down. The Democratic Voice of Burma, a collective of underground video journalists (VJs) recorded these dramatic events and smuggled the footage out of the country, for worldwide broadcast. Risking torture and life imprisonment, the VJs vividly document the brutal clashes with the military and undercover police even after they themselves become targets of the authorities. Followed by Q&A with a group of Burmese monks, leaders of the uprising, now living in the US.
