Slow Food Chicago mobs Vegified Growers
Vegified Growers is a wholesale provider of organic vegetable and herb starts to farmers and garden centers. We currently have 7,200 s.f. of greenhouse space and grow garlic on a little over 1/2 acre of land. We are certified organic by MOSA. We also sell plants in 4" and gallon sized pots direct to the public on weekends only during the planting season.
On Sunday, July 20th, we will be harvesting garlic and hanging it to cure inside a greenhouse. This is physical work so you'll need to be in very good physical condition. Definitely dress for the weather. If the weather has been wet recently, bring mud boots to get to the field. We will be walking on a low road that goes through a wetland area and it can be a muddy walk to the field. Definitely bring work gloves, you will be using shovels and pitchforks to pry under the garlic and pulling the garlic up by the leaves.
We'll meet at 10:00am at the farm (see directions to the farm below). Attendees should dress appropriately, for cold or warm weather, and for rainy or dry conditions. Bring boots and a sack lunch. Please bring a sack lunch.
This event is limited to 30 persons.
