Paul Luchkow (violin) and Michael Jarvis (harpsichord) explore music from the 17th Century in an evocative program performed at Grace Memorial United Church (near Fraser and Kingsway), in East Vancouver.
Quickly becoming known as a concert venue, this conveniently located space will wow you with intimacy and beautiful, clear acoustics.
The concert, lasting about 2 hours, will feature fantastically inventive works from Italy and Germany during a time when the old rules of music were being broken and the new rules were not yet established.
Come and join us for an evening of discovery!
Works by Isabella Leonarda, Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi Mealli, Marco Uccellini, Johann Schmelzer.
------
The LuchkowJarvis Duo was formed by Paul Luchkow and Michael Jarvis in 2007 to explore sonata repertoire for violin and keyboard, from the early Baroque through to the Classical and Romantic periods, on instruments of the time. Since then, Paul and Michael have performed concerts for Early Music Vancouver, co-directed the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and performed for the Early Music Society of the Islands (Victoria). Their recording of sonatas for violin/viola and fortepiano of Johann Nepomuk Hummel was released on Marquis Classics in January 2012 and was nominated as Classical Album of the Year at the 2012 Western Canada Music Awards. A subsequent recording of Mozart sonatas was self-produced and released in the summer of 2013. Their next disc, sonatas of Mendelssohn, will be recorded in the fall of 2014.
