WELL-STRUNG in Popssical!
WELL-STRUNG, The Singing String Quartet returns to Provincetown with an all new show POPSSICAL! In the midst of their first international concert tour and their first major magazine cover spread, Well-Strung, The Singing String Quartet, made their NBC Today Show debut on "Today with Kathie Lee & Hoda" on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. They have been referred to as "absolutely amazing" by BBC Radio host Jo Good during their recent London debut, and as "the hottest thing with a bow since Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games" by the New York Daily News. This brand new show written and performed by Well-Strung is directed by Donna Drake and features the music of Beethoven, Ravel, Madonna, U2 and Miley Cyrus.
Well-Strung have quickly gained national and international attention for their unique mash-up of string quartet and boy band. The foursome features classical musicians who sing, putting their own spin on classical and pop music. They are Edmund Bagnell (first violin), Christopher Marchant (second violin), Daniel Shevlin (cello) and Trevor Wadleigh (viola). Music arrangements are by David Levinson with additional arrangements by Daniel Shevlin and Chris Marchant. Video are by Randy Rainbow. The group was conceived by Art House Artistic Director Mark Cortale and Christopher Marchant.
The group most recently played sold out shows this past month at 54 Below in New York as well as Feinstein's in San Francisco. They most recently they made their debut on London's West End at the Leicester Square Theatre earlier this fall. The foursome's debut album was released on Twist Records on February 28, and was produced by Matt Farber (Founder of LOGO Network) and Mark Cortale. The music video for their "mash-up" of Mozart meets Kelly Clarkson debuted this past summer and has been featured in the Huffington Post and ABC Television.
Edmund Bagnell (first violinist and vocalist) is thrilled to be a part of "Well-Strung!" Recent credits include Toby in Gian Carlo Menotti's "The Medium" starring Varla Jean Merman, Charlie Brown in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" (Summer Theater of New Canaan), Charlie in "The Big Holiday Broadcast of 1959" written by Joanna Gleason (Fairfield Theater Company), and Oramel Howland in "The Great Unknown" written by Jim Wann ("Pump Boys and Dinettes") and Bill Hauptman ("Big River") as a part of NYMF. A favorite role was Tobias in the 1st National Tour of "Sweeney Todd" directed by John Doyle.
Chris Marchant (2nd violinist, vocalist) is proud to be part of this production of Well-Strung. He grew up singing and playing violin, but was not involved with theatre until the end of his time at Malone University in Canton, OH. Since then, he has been involved in a number of productions using his talents as a vocalist, actor, and musician. Favorite productions include Tobias (Sweeney Todd, nat'l tour), violinist (Spring Awakening nat'l tour), Dennis (Sanders Family Christmas), and Provincetown's Naked Boys Singing.
Daniel Shevlin (cellist and vocalist) has had a very varied and geographically spread-out theatrical career. He has appeared off-Broadway in "The Sandbox" written and directed by Edward Albee, had toured the U.S. and Asia in productions of "Rent" and "Cabaret" (Studio 54 version), and has worked regionally as both an actor and cellist in many theaters including the Arvada Center (CO), The Maltz-Jupiter Theatre (FL), Riverside Theatre (FL), and Mason Street Warehouse (MI) to name a few. A New Jersey native, Daniel recently moved back east to NYC after having a much needed and wonderful detour to Denver for almost two years.
Trevor Wadleigh (Violist) is from Seattle and currently a member of The String Collective of New York. He has taught viola at the University of Pudget Sound Community Music Community and is also a co-founder of the Pudget Sound Animal Rescue.
Donna Drake, director was in the original Broadway casts of A Chorus Line, Sophisticated Ladies, Woman of the Year, The Wind in the Willows, 5678-Dance, It's so nice to be Civilized and the original production of The 1940s Radio Hour. She has received an Emmy nomination for Dear Alex and Annie, 4 Drama Desk Nominations, A Mac Award Nomination and a Theatre World Award. She choreographed Catherine Zeta Jones for the American Film Institute Awards. She directed John Tartaglia's Imaginocean which ran Off Broadway at New World Stages.
DAVID LEVINSON, arranger collaborated with Stacey Weingarten and Donna Drake on Les Enfants de Paris (world premiere NYMF 2011). David is also currently working on music and lyrics for Boys Lost, The Elliot's, and Who Is Prester John? which are in development. Film scoring: The Waystation in the Stars (Brandon Morrissey dir.), The Missing Piece (Leila Manion dir.). Live theater scoring: The Boy Who Wanted To Be A Robot (written by Edward Einhorn, produced by Evolve co.). Music direction: Aida, Cabaret, Infancy. Concert Performances: Bringing Voices to Light - A Benefit Concert for Global Internet Access (The Laurie Beechman Theatre), Red Hot and New, The Music and Lyrics of David Levinson (Laurie Beechman Theatre), special guest at The After Party (The Laurie Beechman Theatre).
