Kari Ikonen - piano Ra-Kalam Bob Moses - drums
The music of this duo is based on elliptic and polygonal shapes. It has influences from the rich music cultures of Eurasia, the Americas, Africa and the North Pole.
The 2013 Finnish Jazz Musician of the Year, pianist and composer Kari Ikonen is one of the most prominent musicians in the Scandinavian jazz scene. He is perhaps best known for his trio and for his multinational sextet Karikko, as well as for his writing for various ensembles, such as the UMO Jazz Orchestra. He has played with the likes of Bob Moses, Ingrid Jensen, Magnus Broo and Vincent Courtois. His compositions have been honoured internationally, taking first prize in the Julius Hemphill Composition Awards (USA) and in the Italian Scrivere in Jazz. German JAZZTHETIK and American Something Else Reviews chose Kari Ikonen Trio's Bright on their lists of the best jazz albums of 2013.
Drummer, composer, artist, poet, dancer, visionary, nature mystic: Bob Moses's life has been a continuous quest for vision, spirit, compassion, growth, and mastery in a multiplicity of art forms. A partial list of stellar musicians Bob Moses has worked and/or recorded with both as a leader and a sideman includes: Charles Mingus, Dave Liebman, Keith Jarrett, Steve Swallow, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker, Sheila Jordan, Bill Frisell and John Scofield.
"He was my first mentor Moses is a rarity in this period; a true individualist, uncompromising, far reaching in his concepts and in all ways a true artistic person." (David Liebman)
