Vallejo Symphony - Concert for the Animals
Respighi, La Primavera from Trittico Botticelliana Prokofiev, Peter and the Wolf (Corey Fischer narrating, Pamela Martin, conducting) Rimsky-Korsakov, The Flight of the Bumble Bee Saint-Saëns, The Carnival of the Animals (Happy Dog Piano Duo)
It's all about animals at this show for all ages, presented in partnership with the Humane Society of the North Bay. Respighi's "Primavera" ("Spring") charmingly imitates the sounds of nature's annual awakening. Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" has delighted generations of children with its playful musical themes representing each character. In "The Flight of the Bumble Bee," the whole orchestra becomes a buzzing bee, calm or threatening by turns. Saint-Saëns' delightful "Carnival of the Animals" represents the calls and habits of thirteen animals in clever musical tidbits. This features pianists Eric Tran and Nathan Cheung.(Saint-Saens himself told his publisher that he knew he should be working on his third symphony, but he just couldn't stop composing this piece, "because it's so much fun!")
