Food in Pots: Container Gardening 101
Living in an urban area or being a renter can relegate folks to having to do the majority of their gardening in containers. Never fear! We will discuss the basics of container gardening with a focus on growing edibles in containers. In addition, we'll cover how to design and maintain a container garden long term, select the plants best suited to containers, explore different potting mediums, look at the options for the containers themselves, chat about pros and cons of each, recognize and implement IPM and actually get down and dirty in the reality of doing a container garden! Attendees will leave with a little plant gift to start their own container farm at home.
Instructor Bio: Jocelyn Bentley-Prestwich was raised in the 'environment as art' world and has a colorful lifetime of diverse horticultural experience. Her education spans the continents and climates ranging from living on a farm in Western Australia to botanical field research in Costa Rican rainforests; a BA from Smith College in Studio Art and Landscape Studies, to an internship at Planting Fields Garden and Arboretum in New York; an Edible Roof Garden in the heart of Philadelphia to working at Red Butte Botanical Garden in Salt Lake City, UT. She has finally settled into the 'California Culture' and is thrilled with the challenge from the multitude of microclimates this state has to offer. She is the owner of Jocelyn Alyssa Garden Design.
