Tracing Sonny
Tracing Sonny is about the baggage we carry with us from childhood and how it dominates our personal relationships as adults. Sonny, a voice over artist, struggles to fend off the invasive influence of his over-bearing parents as they literally speak for him, taking over his personality and forcing his true love to the outskirts of his life. Is it too late to take control and get her back? Heady, humorous and heartfelt, this production will also incorporate animation, making it the company's most visually ambitious show to date.
Continuing to build its presence in the NoHo Arts District, Tracing Sonny runs Friday-Sunday from June 5-28 at the Avery Schreiber Theatre.
The run of Tracing Sonny will feature quite a few surprises, including original animation that will be used throughout the show. Sundays will feature a half-off promotion for patrons who draw a self-portrait or drawing of their parents. Theatre Unleashed also presents the Something Awesome Animated Short Festival on Friday June 12, which will feature a collection of animated original films to be shown immediately following the performance. Plus, the company is pleased to welcome the second installment of its late night theatre series Tales of an Unsettled City, titled Encounters, performing on Saturdays after Tracing Sonny. You can enjoy Something Awesome for free and purchase tickets at the door for Tales: Encounters for $10 or enjoy a $5 discount by purchasing a Double Feature ticket online.
