826michigan Presents Necessary Contradictions with Jason Porter
826michigan is proud to present Jason Porter, author of Why Are You So Sad?, with a June installment of the How to Write Like I Do workshop series for adults.
Necessary Contradictions: Hating the Thing We Love to Do While Loving the Thing We Hate to Do Friday, June 20 6-8:30pm @ Model D House 4470 Second Avenue in Midtown Detroit
Being successful as a writer demands the necessary contradiction that we are our harshest critic while simultaneously being our biggest fan. In this workshop we will honor above all else any and all tactics that return us to the writing process. Harmless tricks. Arbitrary goals. Writing with a pen. Closing our eyes. Unplugging routers. We will do whatever it takes to get us back to doing that excruciating humiliating miserable thing we can't seem to get enough of: writing.
Jason Porter writes fiction. He is a graduate of the Hunter College MFA program. His novel, Why Are You So Sad?, was shortlisted for the Paris Literary Prize and was published by Plume, on January 28th, 2014. Visit him at www.thejasonporter.com.
Proceeds from the How to Write Like I Do series benefit 826michigan's free creative writing programs for 2,700 students across Southeast Michigan. This program is made possible with generous support from Thomson-Shore, an employee-owned book manufacturer in Dexter, Michigan.
