Kenny Washington & the Lorca Hart Trio
Recently dubbed "the Superman of the Bay Area jazz scene" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Kenny Washington is a jazz virtuoso who thrills audiences with his soulful interpretations, seemingly limitless range, and rapid-fire scatting. Kenny performs internationally and is a regular at the Lincoln Center, but he calls Oakland home.
Kenny will be playing with an all-star band:
Drummer Lorca Hart grew up in Taos, New Mexico in a musical family. He was exposed to a variety of instruments and musical styles as a child but early on it became clear that the drumset was his passion. In high school he started to perform and focus on Jazz. He attended California Institute of the Arts, studying with Albert "Tootie" Heath, Joe La Barbera, Charlie Haden, Wadada Leo Smith, and many others. Since that time Lorca has worked consistently in a variety of musical situations, performing with many of the West Coast's (and beyond) finest artists.
Sam Bevan is one of the most versatile and creative performers on bass. His skill is superb; he makes that bass sing!
Ben Stolorow on piano will round out the group. Ben is widely acclaimed and a perfect compliment to this hugely talented group.
This is a special 10PM show. Preceding this show is a performance of exceptional young jazz stars curated by Erik Jekabson beginning at 7P - this young jazz star event is free
