The Price of Memory: Slavery on Film
THE PRICE OF MEMORY is a poetic documentary that explores the enduring legacy of slavery in Jamaica and the decades-long movement for slavery reparations. It follows Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Jamaica in 2002 when she was petitioned by a group of Rastafari for slavery reparations. The film looks at the visible ruins left by slavery in Jamaica and also explores the British royal family's past as investors in slavery as well as the enduring legacy of slavery in England.
The screening is part of a series of films exploring slavery and Africa, hosted by the Africa in Motion Film Festival. The other two films in this series are "Tango Negro" (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/686469) and "They Are We" (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/686481).
