Sundog Theatre Presents: Meucci's Message
"Meucci's Message" is about Italian inventor Antonio Meucci, who developed a voice communication apparatus in 1857 that he ultimately named the Sound Telegraph. Some argue he is the true inventor of the telephone and there is controversy and intrigue surrounding his story. We explore his inventions and his fascinating life, including his association with Italian general Giuseppe Garibaldi--who also stayed on Staten Island as a guest of Meucci and his wife. In 2002, U.S. Congress passed a House Resolution which recognizes the life and achievements of Meucci and his work in the invention of the telephone. Premieres June 2014 at The Italian Cultural Foundation at Casa Belvedere in Staten Island for 3 performances.
