Daniel Pearson, She Makes War and L.A. Salami
We are delighted to welcome acclaimed singer/songwriter Daniel Pearson!
The past few years have seen Leeds-based troubadour Daniel Pearson quietly build a reputation as being one of the best new singer-songwriters around. Blending elements of indie rock, alt.country and classic guitar pop, his immediately accessible songs deliver the emotional connection and honesty that only instinctively great songwriting can provide.
Daniel's soulful vocals and finely-crafted songs have found themselves on the airwaves of BBBC 6Music, BBC Introducing, XFM, Amazing Radio and Australia's biggest radio station Triple J. Writers for Uncut Magazine, Drowned In Sound, Shout 4 Music, Pop Matters, R2 Magazine, AllGigs, Sabotage Times, For Folks Sake and No Depression have been quick to celebrate the arrival of a new voice and have drawn comparisons to Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan and Ben Howard in a series of rave reviews for his two albums Satellites and Mercury State.
Already a veteran of rock n' roll and punk bands by his early-twenties, he had toured up and down the UK and released various singles and EPS before going solo in 2010. After deciding to maintain his artistic independence away from the machinations of a larger label, Daniel has become a very successful example of the new music industry an artist that maintains control over every aspect of his career, has a real connection with a loyal and growing fanbase and competes for press and radio coverage with acts with huge marketing budgets through the simple strength of his music.
A compelling live performer, Pearson has shared a stage with acts like Michael Kiwanuka, One Night Only, The Bluetones, Willy Mason and Josephine as well as playing a string of headline dates of his own in the UK and USA. In an age of instant stardom, talent shows and endless media hyperbole, he is proving himself as a genuine talent built for the long haul.
Support comes from the wonderful She Makes War!
She Makes War is the gloom-pop solo project of Bristol based multi-instrumentalist, filmmaker and digital polymath Laura Kidd. A pacifist force of nature with a punk spirit and a serious work ethic, Kidd's mission is a peaceful but provocative one - to create breathtakingly honest music and share her art with the world, levelling with her community of music lovers as peers. With a rich cocktail of influences from ELO to Kristin Hersh, Belly and The Breeders, Blur, Elastica and Suede, Bikini Kill, Nirvana, Hanne Hukkelberg, Cat Power, Carina Round, Radiohead, My Brightest Diamond and Bon Iver, She Makes War has been dubbed "alt-folk", "ambient dream-pop", "a modern musical Boudica" and an "empowering force to be reckoned with".
Her creative one-woman shows on grungey electric guitar, claustrophobic vocal loops, ukulele, marching drum, foot percussion and megaphone have been captivating audiences around the UK and support slots with Suede, The Magic Numbers, Nadine Shah, Chris Helme and Drugstore propelled SMW in to 2014, where she is currently hard at work on her third album.
She Makes War has toured Germany and Austria already this year, and her popular 'Breakfast With Apollo' live music evenings are a must!
Opening the evening is the hugely talented LA Salami! Lookman Adekunle Salami - 'L.A. Salami' - is a rare breed of musician that the world has been craving since the height of storytelling legends like Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and Neil Young. Not quite folk, not quite indy, not quite common and certainly not boring, L.A. Salami's lyricism and voice are hypnotic. His uncanny ability to deliver a story through a song with twists and emotions that are so incredibly human makes his music instantly relatable. With a cool voice, beautiful guitar, and masterful words, L.A. has a distinctness to his art and a charm to his persona that make his live shows captivating and a joy!
With a Goodsoul DJ throughout the evening as well, this is going to be a glorious night of music!
