Border Songs - in Bellingham
The newly christened Bellingham TheatreWorks, in association with Village Books, presents its first production, Border Songs, the stage adaptation of Jim Lynch's beloved book.
Border Songs, the book, has won multiple honors, including the Washington State Book award. Adopted for the stage, Border Songs premiered at Seattle's Book-It Repertory Theatre in 2011. The Bellingham production will be the play's second outing. The Seattle Times described the Book-It premier as "a soulful, fully engaging new adaptation of Lynch's recent best-seller."
Border Songs explores the tensions, struggles, law and lawlessness at the Peace-Arch border through the eyes of Brandon, a quirky, dyslexic, socially-awkward border patrolman. A cast of ten plays over twenty different characters, including drug smugglers, massage therapists, illegal immigrants, EPA agents, farmers, and surly border dwellers.
Village Book and Bellingham TheatreWorks are delighted to bring this engaging, heartfelt story to Fairhaven's Firehouse Performing Arts Center and to Lynden's Claire vg Thomas Theatre.
Rated PG-13 for language, sexual situations and drug references.
